Highway Movie Review

Highway is a bollywood drama movie staring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda. The movie directed by Imtiaz Ali released on 21 February.

Expectations:
When you hear the name of Imtiaz Ali,you expect a quality cinema. He is one of those directors who has large fan following in the young generation. His previous movies Jab We Met,Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar were received very well by the audience. So lets see whether he was able to fulfil the expectations that are associated with his name.

Plot:
The film begins in Delhi a rich businessman’s daughter Veera (Alia Bhatt) is tying the knot with her finance. A few days short of the wedding,Veera blackmails her fiance to take her on a nightly drive down to the highway. At a gas station, they stop. Amidst all the loot the gang leader Mahabir Bhati (Randeep Hooda) kidnaps Veera. With her father’s political connections, it is a daredevil thing for Mahabir who then embarks on a journey from state to state to keep buying time until Alia is sold off successfully into prostitution. How from antagonists do Mahabir and Veera affectionately land up on the same plane is story that needs to be heard in this one.

Review:
Imtiaz Ali the master at rom-com movies return with a very different road movie. The first half of the movie is superb and has many moments which shows Imtiaz's brilliance. He some how creates a fantasy world with lots of energy and passion.
But the problem is the second half.It failed to match the brilliance of the first half.Story becomes too predictable at times. After the interval film transforms into a travel catalogue shifting focus towards capturing landscapes more than the emotional one.

Technically the film is outstanding.Cinematography by Anel Mehta is breath taking. You will glance many places of India that you have never seen. The lighting, locations and settings are well set according to the movie

A.R. Rahman's music is soulful and inspiring.Though none of the songs are played fully in the movie. The song Patakha Guddi is already topping the charts."Maahi Ve" and "Tu Kuja" are special mentions. The back ground score is top notch too.For A.R. Rahman, "Highway" is another winner after "Rockstar".

Star Performances:

Who says "Alia Bhatt" can't act?? He should definitely watch "Highway".She has come a long way from "Student of The Year" to Highway. She breaks free and delivers a fabulous performance. With "Highway" she grows up from a student to actor. She will remind you of Geet(Jab We Met). She is a pure delight on screen.

"Randeep Hooda" delivers a flawless performance. He has carefully chosen his movies which allow him to perfect his skills. He is damn good in the first half and in the rest he just repeats it.

Supporting cast is top-notch.Many unknown names excel in the movie.

Positives:
1.Breath Taking Cinematography
2.A.R.Rahman's Soulful Music
3.Star Performances
4.Bold Subject
5.Freshness In Script

Negatives:
1.Predictable Ending
2.Mediocre Screenplay
3.Chemistry Of Lead Pair

Last Words:

To sum up things,Highway is more for critics rather than audience. Many people will find it boring due to its slow pacing. But if you like off beat cinema, then you should definitely go for this. One more thing this is toatally different from Imtiaz's last movies.Watch it for A.R Rahman 's soulful music matching with Anil Mehta's superb cinematography.Give it a chance and enjoy the ride.....!!!!!

Rating:

3.5/5 Stars
